What kind of metro card to purchase?

We will be in Paris for a couple of days before we head to the Provence region with our tour group. We want to take in the major sites, Effile Tower, Sein boat ride, shopping at the Galleries dept. store, plus head out to Versailles, and just walking around the city. What kind of metro card should we buy to cover all the areas we want to see. Our hotel is at the end on line #1 at LA Defense so I%26#39;m not sure what zones I need to buy for, being Versailles is out of town, also does the metro card cover buses, Rer lines? or should I buy the orange card? Are these available at the metro stations? The only time I%26#39;v riden any metros is when we have traveled aborad, here in Wash state we drive so hope to hear from you. Thanks, Pam

I think you would probably be best just to by a set of 10 tickets called a carnet which costs just over 11 euros. It works out cheaper than buying individual tickets. If you are only in Paris for a couple of days I don%26#39;t think any of the travel cards will be good value for you.

You can buy the carnet at most metro stations either from a ticket desk or a machine and each ticket is good for one person for up to an hour in one direction including changing trains. Hope this is helpful for you:-)

As noted...for a couple of days, CARNETs (booklets of 10 individual tickets) will probably do...but if you wany %26#39;..hop-on / hop-off..%26#39; convenience and transferability to all modes of public transportation in Paris (RER, Metro, Bus, Funicular,m Tram, Noctalien night bus) then then individual one(1) calendar day (from First Trainn AM-to-Last Train PM) MOBILIS passes will do nicely.

One-calendar-day MOBILIS pass, valid for Zone 1-2 (5,60€) will cover all of the City of Paris. There is a slight %26#39;..catch..%26#39; for your purpose though. the LA DÉFENSE area is technically out in Transportation Zone 3....but it is an %26#39;..exception..%26#39; to the Zone 1-2 zone limitation for METRO rides (#1 Metro ligne to and from La Défense) but NOT for either public bus routes or the RER %26#39;A%26#39; ligne...which still require either two tickets for the bus, a special RER ticket for the %26#39;A%26#39; train...or a Zone 1-3 pass (7,60€).

But simply remember only to use the #1 METRO ligne when commuting between La Défense and central Paris ...and the Zone 1-2 pass covers ALL of your other public transportation needs within the City of Paris for the day...with simple %26#39;hop-on / hop-off%26#39; convenience.
