car seats - to hire or not to hire?

Hi

We have a 3.5 year old and an 18month old and are debating the usual %26quot;do we take our own car seats or hire them%26quot; issue. We%26#39;ve booked 2 weeks with Simply who use Europcar and my only experience of them was in Crete when the seats hired (thru Avis in the end) were in a poor state and took ages to fit as no-one was available/allowed to help!

Does anyone have experience of the Corsican situation and have recommendations? I don%26#39;t know if the French have the same new laws that were recently effective in the UK re. 3yr olds in boosters? My main concern is in taking our own seats and the (hidden) damage they may suffer in transit.

Thanks.

I can only tell you about our specific experience.

We booked directly through Avis in Calvi (the town not the airport).

A side note - it was hard to find the office - they are behind the tourist office (towards the water) - second floor of the building, The address of Port plaisance is not very good since it%26#39;s the entire port area.

Our 3 year old and 1.5 year old both got safety seats (not boosters) for I think 28 euro each a week. The seats were in good condition. They had hooks that fit onto a metal bar in the car very easily....but we didn%26#39;t know that. They just handed us the chairs in the office and the keys...and that%26#39;s it. At the parking lot, we stopped an Avis worker who was just delivering a car and he helped us out.

Maybe not the smoothest experience - but that%26#39;s part of traveling and it was worth not carrying TWO seats in addition to all the other stuff we wanted to take and be able to handle luggage and kids through various transfers.

There is one other minus if you don%26#39;t rent at the airport - when we used taxi cabs for the airport transfer - we didn%26#39;t have safety seats and just held them on our laps with our seat-belts over them.
