A taxi to Toulouse would be very expensive. Toulouse is over 100km far from Carcassonne.

Trains are frequent.

See www.sncf.com for schedules.

I picked up a copy of the current timetable on a recent visit to the area. Trains are irregular to say the least but here goes:

Weekday trains Carcassone - Toulouse

0606, 0634; 0725; 0818; 1017; 1245; 1313; 1542; 1608; 1637; 1724; 1817 and 1835 these are local trains no reservations needed. Journey takes 1hr to 1hr 20 minutes depending on the number of stops.

There are also intercity trains reservations required at 0911, 1010, 2055, 2236, 2300 and 2321.

But there won%26#39;t be any trains back to Carcassone after the game as the last one goes at 1936. You%26#39;ll need to find somewhere to stay, or a decent bar.

The first train back in the morning is at 0509.

Hope that helps.

19 trains a day = irregular trains?

I think he means they are not at the same time past the hour.

Hi can you please tell me when this game is? as we are having trouble finding accom. in Toulouse in Oct 07.

Also, I want to spend a few quiet days in either Toulouse or Carcassone with my mother before we embark on a tour. We enjoy walking, taking in the sight %26amp; history, %26amp; watching the world go by. What do you suugest? Thanks

The game is this afternoon Wednesday 15th at 430pm local time. Apologies to earlier enquirer I wrote my comments before us sports fans here realised the game was being played at 430 and that 15th August is a holiday. Which definitely changes the situation!

I don%26#39;t know what%26#39;s happening on 7th October; no Rugby World Cup in Toulouse that day.

Irregular = not at the same minutes past each hour. It baffles me why France, of almost all European countries, cannot organise trains on many lines to run at regular intervals, at the same times past each hour or even every two hours. This is much easier for the customers to remember than having to write down a list, then have to also note whether the train is or is not running if there is a %26#39;r%26#39; in the month.

(I cannot exempt Portugal from some of this criticism!)

Away from the glitz of the TGV, I find SNCF services very poor in many areas. Look closely and see how many %26#39;trains%26#39; are in fact buses.

Getting off topic! Bye.
