Daily Budget

My wife and I are going to Europe for two weeks for the first time in mid-september. We have already paid for all our hotels amd airfare, but I am trying to get a sense of what i should schedule for a daily budget for things like sightseeing, meals, drinks, etc. I have been given answers all over the board.

You need to be a little more specific about where in Europe as the cost of living varies from country to country.

While in Paris I would suggest the Paris Museum/Monument Pass. You can get them for 2,4 or 6 days. Then you will just need to pay for any of the ones not covered on the pass.

For the Metro you can purchase a carnet of 10 tickets for 11euros

We are on a medium budget when we will be going in Sept/Oct we are budgeting around a 100euros per person a day, for food and drinks. We eat light for breakfast and luch we will probly either picnic or have a simple lunch, we will save our larger meal for dinner and a couple of cocktails and or glasses of Champange.

Shopping is up to you....

I hope this helps a little..look at some of the restaurants you want to go to online and look at their prices that may help alittle more in the food area.

Cheers,

We are going to be in:

Paris from 13 Sep-19 Sep

Roma from 19 Sep- 23 Sep

Munich from 23 Sep -27 Sep (Oktoberfest)

Would also like to catch a football match, prefferably in Rome. Probably will try and do a nice dinner each evening.

I budget around 250€ per day for two, except for the Guy Savoy dinner day, when I don%26#39;t want to think about it. That lets us pretty much do as we please as far as lunch, museums, coffees, and a few presents for the folks at home. Because we get apartments, we eat breakfast and the odd dinner in, which helps a lot.

Given today%26#39;s exchange rates, you will need at least $300 a day for expenses, unless you save money by skipping restaurant meals about half the time, and eat a bunch of breakfasts, lunches and dinners on the cheap, such as baguette sandwiches in the park, etc.

Budget? All depends really. The sky is the limit in Paris.

I just got back from a week in Paris and after the initial shock of 17Euros for 2 coffees and 2 croisants at a %26#39;tourist%26#39; bistro...you kind of learn quick. We found very nice restaurants and it did not cost us more than 50E for supper for 2 including wine. Lunch was usually a quick baguette and snack %26lt; 10 Euros for 2. Breakfast - on our own (find a corner bakery) - croissants, coffee, cheese easily less than 5Euros. A carnet of 10 metro/bus tickets cost 11Euros. Sightseeing - again depends if you want to follow a group or do it on your own. Example: Versailles with a tour group ~80E each. On your own (subway, train, entrance tickets) %26lt; 50e for 2!! Big difference - same place!

(for 2) On the low end 100E/day. Safe bet: 200euros. Your mileage may vary....

In Paris, IF you have the Museum Pass (excluding it%26#39;s cost from daily budget) I get by fine on $100E (can%26#39;t find Euro sign). I%26#39;m not a big breakfast person and I don%26#39;t drink coffee, except in Europe for some reason - so breakfast is a standup cafe creme at the bar in a cafe nearby my hotel. I usually have a light lunch and spend the bulk of my daily budget on a nice 2-3 hour dinner and a free after dinner stroll.

This may not work for everyone, my friend notoriously has to eat several times a day. But, I%26#39;m usualy too busy during the day to stop and eat (I can%26#39;t eat on the run - it%26#39;s just not right for Paris) so I tend to splurge on dinner - just not to the extent of Guy Savoy!

Been a few years since I was in London, but London seems to be the most expensive, Paris next and then Rome (Paris/Rome 6-7/06)
