Carte Orange - Not the Final Word

I hate to keep beating a dead horse but I%26#39;ve checked the various threads on the CO and although I understand it, I%26#39;m not sure if it is the right way to go. We arrived on a Wednesday morning and leave on Friday morning. I was going to just go with the carnet as we plan to walk alot. However, does it make sense to buy two carnets and the CO upon arrival? The carnets would get us from Wednesday to Monday and then the CO would cover the rest of the week. We are planning to do Versaille but as I plan to get the Fortait Loisir I would only get the CO for Zones 1-5. Does this make sense or am I out to lunch, if so, does anyone have any suggestions.

Hi PS, are you there just 3 days or ten? if three, the CO for zones 1-2 is about 16.50 which is near the same for the mobilis at about 5.60 Euros a day and you dont need the CO ID.

We%26#39;re there for 10 days, sorry I didn%26#39;t mention that and it is confusing looking at my post. What is covered by Zones 1-2?

I%26#39;ve gone through pretty much the same thing.

When you buy the CO, you tend to take the transport system more. And by the way, don%26#39;t forget the bus, its a great way to get around too.

It seems that in the end, I would have spent just about the same amount if I bought the CO or the carnet.

There%26#39;s a %26quot;plan des zones tarifaires%26quot; hidden somewhere on the RATP site (click on %26quot;plans de lignes%26quot;, then look somewhere below the centre of the page). This map only show RER lines; most metro stations are in zone 1 and zone 2, with some in 3.

Note that the zone 1-2 CO covers the entire metro network - even when this goes into zone 3. Only when you take the RER, you will need to make sure you don%26#39;t leave zone 2.

So, as this is not the last word on the CO, do my ideas on the carnet and CO given our 10 days in Paris make sense or should I just go with the carnets?

The weekly Carte Orange ticket is valid Monday through Sunday, so you%26#39;d need one for Wednesday through Sunday and another for Monday through Friday. If you plan to purchase it upon arrival, you MUST purchase it on Wednesday, as after that you cannot purchase one for the current week.

The weekly Carte Orange costs €16.30 (for Zones 1 %26amp; 2). With your days €16.30/5 = 3.26/day. A carnet of ten tickets costs €11.10 or €1.11/ride. With the new t+ tickets, you can transfer buses without using a new ticket.

Obviously, given your schedule, you%26#39;d only have to use the Carte Orange 3 or more times a day to break even. (Something you probably won%26#39;t do day of arrival or day of departure.)

The Carte Orange is very, very convenient. One ticket you use over and over again on the metro. On the bus, you simply show your card and ticket to the driver (in the nifty holder they give you).

With individual tickets, it is essential that you keep your ticket handy until you%26#39;ve left the metro station or gotten off the bus. If you encounter inspectors anywhere, you must have your validated ticket to show them. Then, you need to toss the used ticket and not get used tickets mixed up with unused tickets. I%26#39;ve learned to tear them in half until I find a trash can.

So, if I have things right, you are saying I should just stick with the carnets and not a combo of the carnet from Wednesday to Sunday and then the CO from Monday to Friday?

Also with the new ticket do you ask for a transfer from the driver to use on the next bus to get to your destination?

Thanks a lot for your insight.
