Driving route from Calais to Dordogne

I%26#39;ve been told of a good route to get from Calais to the Dordogne region (I%26#39;m aiming for Souillac J55 A20) avoiding Paris and some of the common snarl-ups.

It goes like this -

Calais A16/A28 towards Rouen

In Rouen, follow signs for the A13 towards Paris

On the A13, take the N154 to Evreux, through Dreux %26amp; Chartres

Follow the N154 towards Orleans and join the A10

At Orleans take the A71 towards Vierzon

At Vierzon join the A20 towards Chateauroux

Then sit on the A20 for a few hours to J55

Can anyone suggest any other routes they have tried.

well don%26#39;t understand to Evreux, through Dreux and Chartres, because you have first Evreux, then Dreux, then Chartres ....

but really it%26#39;s the best way to Souillac ....

go to www.iti.fr

for a suggestion and then decide

click on the english flag on the home page first before proceeding

all the best

I would certainly recommend the A16 out of Calais via Rouen etc to Orleans rather than the A26 out of Calais via Paris.

It is stress free and lower on tolls.

Can%26#39;t comment after there as we continue on the A71 heading to the Med.

Go to the Google home page, click on %26#39;maps(new)%26#39;, click on %26#39;Get directions%26#39; and put in your start and finish destinations.

If the Google directions advise going through Paris drag the %26#39;line%26#39; over towards Rouen and a new route will appear.

Print it out and you wont go far wrong.

Earlier this year we went the Paris route down to the Dordogne and through Rouen coming back.

We managed to hit Paris mid-morning and the traffic ground to a halt for what seemed ages. Stress? - what%26#39;s stress?

The return journey west of Paris was a doddle and would be my choice of route.

Thanks KeithChesterfield.

Just been on the Google site and played with the blue line. It%26#39;s so easy to change the route + it recalculates the mileage and time.

If you have the time to spare to compile a complete route through France could I suggest a superb map that allows you to follow every step of the way.

It is by far the best inter-active one I%26#39;ve seen, almost every part of the World is shown, and if finding the way from Astana to Kokshetau in Kazakhstan was top of your priorities - then this map is the place to look.

Google search - %26#39;MSN%26#39;

MSN search - %26#39;sights sounds of Paris Westin%26#39;

You should get - %26#39;Westin hotels escape and explore%26#39;

www.renewal.msn.com/explore.html.

Click on %26#39;Paris%26#39;

Then using the controls on the map you can view not only every road in France, and follow its progress, but virtually every road throughout the World.

Any problems get back to me.

But not for the next few minutes - I%26#39;m off for that glass of wine!
