SNCF - stopovers?

I%26#39;ve heard that at the SNCF you can buy a ticket to your final destination but leave the train for a stopover on the way and then continue on the next train. Does it mean that I can buy a ticket from Tours to Angers and back(!), then have a stopover at Saumur for a few hours, go on to Angers and then come back (all on the same day) without bothering about my tickets except for punching them the first time I get on the train at Tours?

Yes

with caution - dont try this on a TGV service. Or any other service where you have designated seats

I think the rules of the railway say that the ticket must be used in two hours after it is punched. Does it mean I need to punch it again at Saumur or the first time still will be enough?
