plessis hotel

has anyone any experience of HOTEL PLESSIS situated near Place De La Republique i am due to go there in oct. I am slightly disabled but do not need a wheelchair. Any tips about getting round Paris....i am going to LE PRIX DE L%26#39;ARC DE TRIOMPHE

I stayed there for a week in April %26#39;06 and it is a nice, clean, well-managed, inexpensive, tourist class hotel. Rooms on the 5th Floor have a small balcony w/table and two chairs. I stashed water there overnight to chill it, besides sitting out occasionally for a bit. There is a small lift right in the lobby to run you up...but I usually would walk down when going out. There are plenty of restaurants ringing the Place du Republique just acouple of blocks away including Chez Jenny (good steak and delicious desert, Coupe du Glaces du fruits) and alittle Trattoria next to it that was small and smokey and seeming full of locals not touristes such as myself. Good pizza and cold beer.

Both are on the Blvd Du Temple side of the Place. Being a Yank I also have been to the Buffalo Grill for their Hamburgers and frites, not bad at all. Lots of others to choose from nearby, cafes, etc.

Interesting you are going to Longchamp, since Mmle Lo, the clerk at the Hotel Plessis called the Restaurant there for me to get me a RSVP for a table which wound up being down in front along the windows on the first finish line. Doubt you%26#39;d be able to get one like that for Arc Day though.

As for going to the track...I%26#39;d take line 9 to Porte du Auteuil (the steeple course) and walk across the street to the bus stop for the free shuttle to Longchamp. When you leave the track it will be the 2nd bus out front of the grandstand...forget the #. This way is much easier than navigating around the

Porte Malliot, which involves more walking and lots more traffic.

And don%26#39;t forget to buy the Paris Turf, lots of good info you can decipher even if you don%26#39;t speak/read much French, i.e., form = musique - 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 4th, (for recent finishes.)

Bon Chance.

You are welcome MM....however....there is one correction to your Metro Directions. From either the nearby Oberkampf (smaller station, less walking) or Republique stops...take Line 9 (Direction - Pont de Sevres) and get off at Michel-Ange Auteuil and transfer to Line 10 (Direction Boulogne Port St Cloud) and go ONE stop to Porte du Auteuil. Exit the Metro following the %26quot;Hippodrome%26quot; sign and when you come up right across the street is the bus stop.

All this will be clear when you study any of the Metro Maps outside any of the stations. Or you can check it here:

Notice that you could also take Line 5 from your starting point down to the Gare de Austerlitz and get Line 10 at it%26#39;s origination point all the way to Porte De Auteuil. Either way you will have to transfer once to get Line 10.
