Paris-Amsterdam-Brussels or Munich-Salzburg?

Hi-

I posted this query on the Munich forum as well.

Planning vacation for my 15-year-old son%26#39;s spring break (March 15-22, 2008). Thinking of either Munich-Salzburg, which we%26#39;ve not been to yet OR AMS-BRUS-PARIS. Haven%26#39;t been to AMS or BRUS. Been to London, Paris and Ireland so far. Loved Paris.

If you could only choose one, which would you choose given the time of year and things to do?

My son will go to a few museums, but not a week%26#39;s worth; he loves good food and soaking up a culture at a cafe (which he loved in Paris), also likes shopping like most teenagers, and am sure he%26#39;d be intrigued by AMS culture.

We are of German heritage and he did take a year of German, so I thought that one might be good. I hear people rave about the beauty of both Germany and Austria. We like outdoor activities and are athletic, but I doubt that time of year in Germ/Aus is conducive to many outdoor activities.

Appreciate any input.

Thanks.

well would say better Munich and Salzburg then Brussels (which become a moroccan territory) but of course Amsterdam is a well worth place to visit ....

I would also choose the Munich and Salzburg trip. Salzburg is truly beautiful and if he likes the cafe culture he%26#39;ll be in his element.

You would be surprised about the outdoor pursuits in March, there%26#39;ll still be some snow around but you could certainly get some walking in.

Finally, you do realise that the dates you have chosen are Easter weekend. The Friday and Monday will be holidays in Europe so you will find many places will be booked up, prices will be jacked up and a lot of places will be closed.

On the upside, there%26#39;ll be loads of religious ceremonies going if that%26#39;s your thing.

We were in Salzburg in mid March this year, and coincidentally in Amsterdam in early May. I think you%26#39;re right about the time of year for Munich / Salzburg, especially outdoor activities - a bit late for the skiing and a bit too soon for walking among spring flowers in the mountains (if that%26#39;s what you had in mind).

Amsterdam has a lot going for it, with varied musuems, cafes and possibilities for canal trips and cycling if the weather is OK - I%26#39;d imagine a teenager would thoroughly enjoy the whole experience.

Mentioning German heritage - how about including a trip to Cologne (just over 2 hours by train from Brussels)? There%26#39;s a chocolate museum as well as the cathedral and museums!

Personally, I%26#39;d be inclined to sit down with guide books for possible itineraries and, for that time of year, work out what you could do if it was cold and wet all week, and conversely, if it was bright spring sunshine all the time.

Thanks for all of your comments.

It sounds like Munich and Salzburg are the right choice for us.
