Eurostar - London to Paris

We are spending the first week of Oct. in London and are thinking about taking the Eurostar to Paris, but we could only stay for a day. We would appreciate tips on travelling by Eurostar and also

how we might spend the 8 - 9 hours we would have in Paris. We do not speak any French and are not what you would call experienced international travelers - but we just can%26#39;t be that close to Paris and not see even a tiny bit of it!

Here is a link to another thread that asks the same question, with a number of responses you may find helpful. Of course, if at all possible, try to get an early train over (and a relatively late return) to maximize your time in Paris - that way, you can have an early dinner before you return.

Thanks, that link was helpful.

Also, another benefit is that you can buy your tix on line, print them out and then rock up to the station 20 minutes before departure. Just remember to validate your ticket in the yellow machine at the head of each platform, before you get on the train! Enjoy, enjoy!

Remember that there is a time difference, so you need to leave London really early as Paris time is London + 1 hour. If for example you want to be somewhere at 10:00 am that is only 9:00 am London time.

The upside is that on the return it is not as late in London as you think.

As others have said get the earliest train possible (around 6am)and you can be in Paris around 9am.

Get a good foldable map and just walk.

Don%26#39;t waste time trying to see everything in one day, you will get a good feel for the city in one day if you just stroll it.

If you are feeling energetic enough and you are travelling light for the day you can comfortably walk to the river from the Gare du Nord.

Perhaps head down Rue La Fayette and then towards Rue Vivienne thru the old shopping galleries and Palais Royale. You will come out facing the Louvre and stop for a coffee.

You can stroll the islands from there and have a good French lunch (Cafe Med on St Louis en L%26#39;ile is v.good),but there is plenty to chose from.

Stroll down the seine on the Right Bank and the walk thru the Tulleries Gardens.

Monet%26#39;s Orangerie there is an excellent stop if you want a museum visit in a short time.

Champs Elysees is close by then past Place de la Concorde.

Don%26#39;t try to pack to much in though.

You will have a great day.

Don%26#39;t worry about your lack of French.

Regular buses back to Station from Ront Point at intersection of Ave Montaigne and Champs Elysees.

I have heard that the absolute cutoff for boarding Eurostar trains in London is 30 minutes before departure - be sure you allow enough time to make it through security, etc. , because I have seen comments on this forum that people have been denied boarding if they arrive at the gate less than 30 minutes before departure. You might want to get there early just to avoid any issues.
