Hi All,
I have lots of miles with Delta and plan to use those miles for an upagrade. However, when I read about the upgrade policy, it said that the upgrade is available for Delta operated flights only.
I recently bought a ticket to Hamburg on a Delta flight ( I got the ticket through www.travelpapa.net. When I looked at the itinerary, I realized that the flight will be operated by AirFrance both ways. I understand that Air France and Delta have the code share agreement. Does this mean that I will not be able to get an upgrade because the fly will be operated by Air France? Has anyone ran into this situation before?
Another question: Has anyone purchased their tickets through www.travelpapa.net? I am asking this question because...for the many times that I flew to Paris, as soon as I purchased my ticket with another company other than Delta.com, my itineray would show up on my frequent fly mile account with Delta. However, it has been a few days since I got my ticket with www.travelnetpapa.net and I still did not see my itinerary on my frequent fly mile account with Delta. I am a bit concern about this situation.
Thanks very much!

I don%26#39;t necessarily know the answer to your specific question. I do know that Delta will do ANYTHING to prevent you using your miles for an upgrade or free flight. I have over 50k FF miles with Delta and, when I went to use them for an upgrade, they told me that the ticket I bought wasn%26#39;t the right class to use as an upgrade. I bought it through the Delta website at the published rate. The ticket I had to buy, in order to qualify for an upgrade cost $2,680.00 which sort of defeats the whole purpose, in my mind.
I am planning on donating the miles to a charity organization. I also will never fly Delta again, when there is a reasonable alternative.

1. it%26#39;s not a Delta operated flight, so no upgrade
2. if it%26#39;s not a full fare or near full-fare ticket, you can%26#39;t upgrade. conditions are fully disclosed. Standard airlines procedures.

I had the exact same thing happen. I saved up alll these miles using their lousy credit card for everthing I bought for 2 years. Only to be told I would need to pay more than $3000.00 for upgrading. I ended up taking two coach tickets which I still had to pay to trasfer miles from my husbands account to mine. We have in thapst taken dirct AF flights from LA to Paris, however Delta booked us an flight that connected to AF in NY. So our luggage did not make it to Paris with us. After 5 days we finally got the lugggage.
So, Like you I am donating my Delta miles. I have found that Air Tahiti flies direct from LA to Paris so I will try them for our next trip. I will avoid Delta in the future.

I stopped using Delta about three years ago - took all our accumulated Delta miles, got pure-mileage business class tickets to Paris for three people for Christmas (booked the day they became available), and put my focus on my American account.
The way it usually works (or did, as of two or three years ago) for upgrades on a codeshare flight is that, if it%26#39;s a true code share, you theoretically can upgrade. Some partners like AF apparently are very restrictive as to how many such seats they will allow Delta to use for that purpose, however, and at what base fare.
I have to say, what I really miss are the %26quot;old%26quot; Delta days when you could get a systemwide upgrade good for any published fare, after X number of miles! You can%26#39;t believe how I looked forward to that!

The EXACT same thing happened to me. I bought a $1400 ticket on delta.com, full fare price. They told me I needed to buy a $2300 ticket to get an upgrade with my miles. That ticket wasn%26#39;t even an OPTION when I purchased mine. Mine was the most expensive they had (not by my choice). Crazy.
So I will continue to stockpile and use them for free flights, which I never seem to have a problem with...

I%26#39;m sorry SD Wanderlust, for hijacking this post! I didn%26#39;t mean for it to go so off track. I AM happy to know that it wasn%26#39;t just me Delta was picking on :) And bimbob, I understand the procedure, it just seems as though, if you pay the full published fare, in fact, the only one available, then it should qualify for the upgrade. Like Berkelytraveler, I miss the old Delta too. In those days, it was by far my airline of choice. No more.

And I thought American Airlines was bad! Generally, when I plan to upgrade, I confirm with a human being over the phone (yes, you can still do that) that the upgrade is available. I purchase the regualar coach-class ticket on-line and then I immediately call AA back to either upgrade or get on the upgrade list if it is not immediately available.
They charge me 50,000 miles (low season) for a R/T upgrade plus $300 each way. In order to get an upgrade I usually need to book it more than 9 months in advance.
By the way, I believe I can use AA FF miles on AA only - no exceptions.

My experience with American is like Pixfield%26#39;s and I always do it over the phone because it%26#39;s so hard otherwise (plus, no point in first buying the ticket and then finding out no seats are available for that date). I got paid tickets with mileage upgrade for this December, but did it in January.
For the %26quot;pure mileage%26quot; tickets, however, American recently introduced a search feature on the web that is truly cool. You can look at a calendar that will show you dates when tickets are available (and how many miles you will need - i.e., the lowest amount, or the double miles option), and you can select departure and return dates based on that information. It really is much better than the old days of 30 minute calls to the customer service people, and the back and forth of whether leaving a day earlier or returning two days later will get you what you need.

if you belong to the AmEx Rewards program you may be able to transfer your miles (not sure if Air France is a partner).
I%26#39;ve used American Express miles combined with Delta miles to fly Business Class on Singapore Airlines
Air France tried to talk me into going to Paris from NYC via Boston when I attempted to book 2 years ago using AA miles - I refuse to go through Boston when I live in a major transcontinental hub! I think booking the NYC to Boston leg on American and Boston to Paris on Air France was the only way they were willing to book it. I went to Spain on Iberia instead

I%26#39;m really off today - that was supposed to be transatlantic hub! Why cant we edit posts here!!!
