apartment dilemma

we are deciding between three apartments: 1 in montmartre west of sacre couer, one on charlemagne in the 4th and one near st. georges in the 9th.

we will be in paris 12 days. we have been 1x previously staying in rue cler area. this time would like to be a bit out of the tourist crowds and feel we have a little more time to get to know an area. any thoughts on these areas from the francophiles on this forum? we should be making this decision soon!! thank you.

Rue Saint Georges area is a good choice. It is a delightful place in Paris, very residential, not many tourists even though there are a lot of hotels there. Rue des Martyrs is the shopping street with all the wonderful stores you need. Rue Notre Dame des Lorettes is the upcoming street with some designer stores. A true Parisian neighborhood in my opinion, with all the conveniences and none of the fluff (or very little of it). Because the area has several theaters it also has some interesting restaurants and cafes that are open late.

I would go for the apartment on rue Charlemagne for its location in the Marais near the Seine. It is close to Ile St Louis, the area of the Marais around rue Vieille du Temple and rue des Rosiers (lots of nice cafes and good shopping) and you can walk to the Latin Quarter %26amp; St Germain. It is close to St Paul Metro on Line 1 and Pont Marie Metro on Line 7. It is also a charming area. You have only been to Paris once before and stayed in the rue Cler area, so you should try staying in the Marais.

We loved the Marais. If you haven%26#39;t already done so you can check it out on www.parismarais.com

The Marais is a great area but it is most definitely not out of the %26quot;tourist crowds%26quot;. The Sacre Coeur area unless you are several blocks away defines tourist area, so I have to agree with La Photographe and recommend the charming area around St. Georges.

i have never seen tourists in rue Charlemagne, so that would be my first choice, second would be St Georges, and third by far would be Sacré Coeur, too many tourists and hard to go up the hill after a long day sightseeing, unless you take the funiculaire

Hi Raphy, I didn%26#39;t know the funiculare was operating again. When did they start it again?

We stayed on Rue Charlemagne in June, really loved the location, and would stay there again in a heartbeat. It is just off Rue St Paul, and there are so many little patisseries, fruit shops and a Monoprix really close by. Also very near to Metro though we walked everywhere when we were there, and there is a good internet place within a couple of minutes walk.
