7th arrondisement

Is this a good place to stay? Found a beautiful apartment to stay in, should we stay in a hotel in a different location or is this a good location to stay? Beautiful Eiffel Tower view or not worth it?

Hi japindy, I%26#39;m staying in the 7th also, renting thru parispiedaterre. From the research I did it looks to be quiet and more residential then some of the other neighborhoods which is fine with me. Plenty of restaurants and Rue Cler nearby. The thing that sold me is being able to walk to the Champs de Mars park every night and watch the tower light up. For some reason I love that tower. The metro is very handy so you can be anywhere you want in very little time. I think it%26#39;s a good choice.

Any place in Paris is beautiful...you just have to decide what particular beauty you want. If you want a view to the Tower, then go for it! For me, beauty is a bustling little street with pokey corners, the smell and noise of cafes and breathing it in whilse gazing at the night sky through streetlamps.

Hmmmm...30 days to go....

We have stayed in the 7th twice and really like the area. It is quiet and clean. We also enjoy walking down the the Champ Du Mar and the market. I cannot say it is better or worse than other areas as we have stayed in the same hotel the two times we have been in Paris. We stayed in the Hotel Champ Du Mars. It is a nice small hotel with very clean rooms and a great dog.

Have fun!

I like this area as well. I usually stay at the Hotel Muguet. Like the other posters stated it is on the quiet side, but very pleasant. The metro is close, so after your feet get tired you can take it back home. Have a wonderful time!

Hello

The 7th is a very upscale part of Paris because of its parks (Ecole militaire %26amp; Invalides--please note the area between the Eifel Tower and the place Joffre used to be a gay meeting place at night--hence not so quiet at night--whether this is still the case I don%26#39;t know). This is also where most of the Ministries are to be found--hence a lot of police--hence very safe to walk. You will find both wide avenues and charming little streets in the faubourg St. Germain. Lots of splendid 18th and 19th C architecture (if you can get inside the German Embassy--the former Hôtel de Beauharnais still furnished as it was originally at the beginning of the 19th C).

The downside is that it tends to be very quiet if not dead at week-ends (viz. the Upper East Side in NYC) and even during the week. Civil servants and high officials are not a jolly crowd (taxi drivers used to call the area %26quot;Le Paradis%26quot; because of all the nuns %26amp; pious widows who live there). Daily shopping may be a problem depending on the season (almost everything is closed in August) and if you like to go to a café for breakfast there may not be one near by (if you have the address of the apartment, look it up on the pages jaunes you%26#39;ll see what%26#39;s next to it in the street--they even provide photographs, maps, etc.

Another drawback is the RELATIVE scarcity of métro stations. Note also that some streets %26amp; avenues may be very noisy.

All in all it is a very nice neighbourhood but it all depends on what you like %26amp; do on holidays.

we love staying in the 7th We have stayed in the 7th for the last 15 years and find it delightful, safe and easy access to almost everywhere - We do stay closer to the river than Mountparnarse(sp?) - close to Invalides, Rodin Museum- It%26#39;s a great area

Thanks to all for the great advice. Appears to be a great neighborhood to stay. I was in Paris 8 years ago with my mother and hope to take my husband very soon. Beautiful city!!

The only real downside to it is that you aren%26#39;t within walking distance of a lot of sights. It is quiet at night, but for a lot of people that is more of a plus than a minus.

The area around the Ecole militaire metro stop has a number of cafes/bars, etc. which stay open late.

I like the area, I think it is pleasant.

We have stayed in the 7th at Hotel du Champ de Mars and I too loved walking to Champ de Mars and watching the tower twinkle every night. We have also rented through Paris Pied a Terre and got a good apartment in the 16th last November (the 7th apartments were already full or we would have rented on of them). I love the 7th. We like that it is quiet at night and we get a good nights sleep.

I like the 7th as well and also stay at Hotel Muguet.
