Saint- Georges - De - Didonne (near Royan)

Has anyone been to this little village as I am going there in Summer 06 and would like some general advice on it.

Thanks

Hi, its not a little villiage, though it does have that feel. Population of about 6000, which in July/August gets up to 66000 (so I%26#39;m told) St Georges and Royan both have good beaches, the top layer is replaced every June, the sea is a bit nippy as its the Atlantic. Water orientated sports there, sailing, kite/windsurfing, jetski and boat hire are available fom Royan Harbour, as well as sightseeing trips. A good restaurant I%26#39;ve used many times, is on Royan front, opposite the gardens, called le Pave Bleu - has been consitantly good over the past 4 years. The Royan Casino is a bit naff, food is good and reasonable cost/value, when I went we got a stage/floor show included. Most people there speak only French, some have a little English. In the summer, this is a French resort for French holidaymakers, but there are also lots of Brits and Dutch there, some Germans too.

do you know of any nice little coastal village nearby for family holidays without frantic activity in august - or is that just not going to happen? family of four / 2 adults / 2 youngish kids. arriving into la rochelle by flight, considering a couple of nights inland and then coastal? does anyone know if la cotinere on Ile d%26#39;Oleron is nice also? specifically the hotel la chaume?

or any good campsites to rent mobile home?

interested in any advice.

There is only one American family there - and that is mine. My mother is from this region and my family is still there. We are there every summer and spring. Yes, mostly French vacationers spending the holidays with their families. Camping and beach activities are standard during August. ENJOY!
