I am befuddled and bewildered by the vast array of places to eat in Paris and need help choosing a moderately priced eatery that would be suitable for a young child (10 months) and that is open in August, including Mondays. Ideally we%26#39;d like to find an authentic French restaurant, bistro or brasserie that isn%26#39;t touristy and overpriced. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Most brasseries will be open in August. Many bistros will be closed. Of course, areas around tourist sights will be open for the tourists.
Keep in mind: the high chair situation in Paris is not good. It isn%26#39;t like in North America where just about every restaurant has some sort of high chair for kids. If your baby will stay in your lap that will be great. Also be sure to have a stroller you can fold up nicely for when you enter, they frown upon the strollers being brought into small restaurants. (I have had babies with me in Paris twice, both at the same age as yours...)

There are some restaurants in Paris called Red Hippo. We ate there once and the food was good and I saw highchairs there. I saw a few of them areound the city.

Thanks for your posts. We%26#39;re prepared to have him on our laps, and we%26#39;ve got a lightweight collapsible umbrella stroller - good to know that we should collapse it before we go in to cafes and restos. Thankfully there will be 4 adults (parents and grandparents) to take turns holding a wriggly baby! If we%26#39;re not worried too much about whether we have a high chair, do you have any specific recommendations for bistros or brasseries that aren%26#39;t chains and aren%26#39;t touristy? Any food-related recommendations would be welcome, actually - including cafes, pastry shops, markets...I love to eat!
We%26#39;ll be staying in the 10th arrondissement, near the Gare de l%26#39;Est, but of course we%26#39;ll be in the other arrondissements as well for site seeing so we don%26#39;t necessarily have to eat near where we%26#39;re staying for every meal. Look forward to hearing more recommendations and looking forward even more to being in Paris soon!
