Hi im hoping to travel to Paris on 28th August for 3 nights - taking my parents with me who are elderly so want a hotel around Gare du Nord for convenience with trains.
Ive been looking at lots of hotels but dont know which one to stay at as mixed reviews- was thinking of %26#39;Relais de Paris Lafayette, Mercure Terminus, Nord Hotel, Metropol, New Hotel Gare du Nord.
Just dont know which would be best - any advice would be appreciated .
Thanks
Eileen

we%26#39;re going in August as well and have booked a room in the Hotel Francais, near both the Gare de l%26#39;Est and Gard du Nord. Haven%26#39;t been there yet so can%26#39;t give a recommendation but we found it through TripAdvisor.

Thanks again

I would not recommend to stay at/near Gare du Nord for 3 nights. It is a %26quot;rough%26quot; area of Paris not so much in terms of security - even though they have their share of that too - but in terms of crowds. Metro, RER and buses tend to be CROWDED around there with people in a hurry, pushing and running etc.
Go to bus 42 upon arrival - you catch it right there at train station, just follow the signs - and stay close to Opera Garnier for example or close to Madeleine which has many buses and metros. Those too are %26quot;kinder%26quot; areas of Paris without going too far from Gare du Nord (10 min bus ride).

I second staying in Opera area. Much as I love the 10th arondissement near the %26#39;Gares%26#39; it can be busy and I think you will appreciate the more upscale area. Enjoy yourselves.

Hi there thanks for your advice - i had read it could be roughish somewhere but just thought typical of a big city - ill check out those areas .
Thanks again
