We are visiting Antibes in August and are looking for some nice restaurants to book in advance of our visit. On previous visits to the South of France we have enjoyed Don Camillo in Nice and Carnival in Menton. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where we should book? We are also looking for somewhere to sample some excellent bouillabaisse.

In Antibes I can recommend the Cafe de Chineurs close to the entrance to Port Vauban/ Old Antibes - no, its not a chinese - but a broad menu. When its on good form, the cooking is excellent.

Thanks for the recommendation NiceLife. We will definitely check it out.

There are plenty to choose from in Antibes.....if it was me, I would book the Auberge Provencal (fab restaurant, not such great hotel rooms) as my first choice, then the lovely Le Jarre in the ramparts, booking tables in the courtyard for both. For something a little less pricy try the garden at Le Jardin, foods not the greatest but the garden is lovely and usually nice service. If you really want to push the boat out book a table on the terrace of the %26#39;Belles Rives%26#39; in Juan-les-Pins. In August it%26#39;s also very nice to eat at any of the restaurants on Blvd. d%26#39;Aguillon along the%26#39;strip%26#39; there are all sorts of stalls to browse and usually acrobats, jugglers etc. to keep you amused and is a great place to just people watch...enjoy.

Check out Josy Jo in Haut de Cagnes (about 15 mins drive from Antibes in a beautiful medieval village high above the coast). A firm favourite of ours. restaurant-josyjo.com/siteEN/Indexoriginal.h…
You need to book.

Have to agree with NiceLife%26#39;s (hiya!) rec for Cafe des Chineurs ( but with one caveat. Although recommended as a being good choice for lunch, we had the worst omelette ever, a couple of weeks ago. It may be that the chef had stepped out and some poor kitchen help was given the task (they came out as a huge deep-fried large flat pancake - shudder shudder) but our neighbours, all French, on both sides, who befriended us, not least because of this aberation, had wonderful looking dishes ~ the Fish %26quot;special%26quot; looked devine! The staff was friendly, service was prompt, and time permitting we%26#39;ll probably go back. It seemed to cater to locals ~ good indication, and I%26#39;m glad we went.
BTW, we went on a Thursday and the market(s) were really good. I got great bargains on table cloths ~ a quarter of the price from stores and some great choices.

Hi Soamsey
Cafe de Chineurs is really frustrating. Times are its one of the best around, then they go int to reverse and its a disaster.
Once we spent a half hour waiting to %26quot;catch the waiters eye%26quot; and they played the %26quot;I can%26#39;t see you%26quot; game , and we ended up walking out.
Other times its been perfect.
Oh France - you drive us crazy!
Cheers

We have just returned from Antibes, and agree that Le Jarre was fantastic. Family run and lovely courtyard. Quite pricey but absolutely worth it. Definitely request the courtyard.. La Marmite also very nice and does excellent fish. La Vieux Murs is also very good, but more formal and again, quite expensive as is Le Cesar at Garoupe Beach (a taxi ride from Antibes town) but also very nice. When trying to be more economical we found plenty of places to drop onto in town. These were definitely more touristy as you%26#39;d expect and some most certainly had their off days, but we had some nice relaxed meals in some.

We have had some great meals in Antibes but not at the restaurants mentioned - all look great but were out of our league. I agree with the comments about the variety of restaurants in the squares and in the Market Place. There are alos some restuaurants in the sidestreets that you stumble across with menus from 14-30 euros.
Another option might be some of the restaurants near the Palace in Monaco or just off the seafront in Cannes.

Can anyone tell me - Do you need to wear a tie/jacket at Les Vieux Murs in Antibes?
|||
No you don%26#39;t...long trousers and a long sleeved shirt is enough.
