Will the sun be in my eyes on flight from CDG to LAX?

I know this is a silly question but I%26#39;m going for it anyway.

We booked our flight the other day and this question came up when we were choosing our seats. We%26#39;ll be flying from Paris to Los Angeles leaving around 4:30pm, arriving in LA around 7pm beginning of Nov. My friend is convinced that we need to sit on the left side of the plane (port side) because on one of her previous flights from Europe she sat on the right side and the sun was glaring in the window - I think it must have been during the summer and the sun was higher in the sky and set further North (right?).

Since it%26#39;s my turn for the window seat on that leg of our trip, I don%26#39;t want the sun to be glaring thru my window and since it%26#39;s close to sunset time the sun will be low in the sky. Am I correct to think it would be better on the right side (starboard) or am I missing something? Perhaps because the planes don%26#39;t fly straight West across but sort of veer North and then South could be another reason the sun shines on the right side(?), or perhaps my friend had one too many:).

Thanks for any replies--this is a hard thing to find on the internet.

It will b coming in the left side.

If the sun is in your eyes, just lower the window shade.

All depends which routing your airline will be taking. Check on the Net or just pull down the window shade.

As you proceed westbound on your return flight, the two seats with sun glaring through the windows in a most annoying fashion will be those of the captain and first officer.

The passengers may occasionally find direct sunlight in their eyes, (I%26#39;m inclined to agree that those on the left might receive more overall direct sunlight ) but amazingly, each window seat has a sun shade that can be lowered to protect one from over exposure. Of course this limits a passengers ability to enjoy the scenery but what can one really see from 35,000 feet above the earth?

When choosing seats, my primary objective is to avoid those located next to the lavatories. Nothing worse than those permeating odors and the endless lines of hopeful fellow travelers, continuously bumping into my seat as they anxiously awaiting their turn.

I am not sure how the direct sunlight is going to work out for you but do what you can to avoid seating near one of those lavs.

Thanks everyone!

I do love to look out the window, even if it%26#39;s just looking at cloud formations:) - may sound strange to you but I find the whole concept of flying thru the sky amazing and prefer not to pull the shade down, if possible. Plus, sometimes the person right by the window can just lean back and avoid the sun but the people sitting next to you may not be able to so you feel obligated to pull it down.

But those poor pilots--never thought about that.

And I agree about the lavatories--always avoid them.
