Where would you go in mid Oct.?

Looking for suggestions of places to go in France from Strasbourg in mid-October? We%26#39;ve been to Paris, Normandy, Alsace, and Burgundy; and will have a week with car, but can use planes or trains. Looking for great local food (shouldn%26#39;t be too hard in France) and sightseeing. Thanks.

The obvious suggestion is Provence, where there is plenty of sightseeing and good food (and wine). You can hope for sunshine too! If you decide to go there, it would definitely be worth having the car to get around. There is lots of info if you use the %26#39;Search%26#39; box above - or ask more questions anyway :-)

Of course Provence or Cote d%26#39;Azur, but mid october, a lot of services are closed outside the big cities.

If you are not worried about the weather (but often fall is nice) go the Loire Valley and visit the castles ....

Or visit the Brittany, could be windy and rainy ....but very lovely

Or go to Carcassonne and visit the vineries Corbières and cathars Castles, the Minervois, Toulouse ....

Go from Atlantic shores (Pyrénées Atlantiques, Biarritz, ST Jean de Luz) across the Pyrénées passes to the Mediterannean coast, wonderfull, sometimes rainy ....You can for instance take the TGV from Paris Montparnasse to Biarritz, rent a car and leave it at Montpellier and take the TGV back to Paris

more infos ?

Thank you so much for the great ideas. My one concern was that places may be closed or closing for the winter, and I will look into that. Guess I better start practicing my French again. Can%26#39;t wait!

well winter usually come later, let say mid november, but really 2007 weather is really special. We had the summer in april and the spring now in july and august, except the Riviera ....If you need help just let me know or send me a message .....

The main thing to look out for if you%26#39;re wanting to visit monuments and other attractions will be that the opening hours are more restricted than in high season. In summer places may be open all day every day until early evening, whereas from September they start closing earlier, taking a couple of hours for lunch, or possibly closing one day a week. Actually, with a Toussaint holiday at the end of October, I%26#39;d guess that tourist businesses will aim to be funtioning at least until then. As you say, it just needs checking in advance so that you%26#39;re not disappointed.

Here in Dallas we%26#39;ve also had very strange weather. This summer we had lots of rain. But, now the heat%26#39;s finally come... Thank you again for the help. I%26#39;ll post about the places we went.
