Hi;

Not everyone can enjoy an excursion like this one, but for those who marvel at engineering and the inner workings of a city, the Paris Sewer Tour is a fascinating excursion.

Located across the river from the Alma Marceau metro station, it is open everyday except Thursday and Friday, 11am to 5pm.

The museum gives a history of the Paris sewers, exhibits machinery used to maintain them and reveals a glimpse of the underground maze of tunnels that are part of the landscape of what goes on below street level.

To further your interest in the world beneath Paris you might consider also the Catacombs

There was a discussion of this just a few days ago so you might check out the various responses made there. My wife, teenage son, and I did the sewer tour about 10 years ago and we would recommend it. It%26#39;s fairly short, informative, and interesting (and I am a retired English instructor, not an engineer). Some of the responses to the previous discussion suggested it was smelly, but we don%26#39;t recall that being even a slight problem (perhaps things have changed). A good way to spend an hour.

I did this with my 15 year old son 6 years ago and we really enjoyed it. It is really different. If you are going during hot weather it is nice and cool (not cold but cool) there underground, and it is very interesting (and I am a mom with very little interest in science, etc.) I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

I took my grand-daughters on this tour. We just showed up at

The Sewers, near Pont Alma, and there were regular rotation

of tours. (also a gift shop!) The thing we all remembered was the fact that they can retrieve jewelry (rings) if they go into the sewer system.

They really enjoyed this, along with the tour of the Catacombs.

Again, we just showed up at the Catacombs for regular admission.

They are still talking about it. Catacombs is cool/cold, damp and dark. A bit of history with the French Underground was mentioned.

Lots of stairs- - - - I believe it is deeper into the ground than the

Metro.

Now the catacombs--that%26#39;s really interesting! Do them both if you haven%26#39;t already done the catacombs. Both very unusual and very interesting. If I only had time for one I would pick the catacombs. However, as I mentioned before, the sewers are interesting. Have fun!

I would not do that unless you have seen everything there is to see

ABOVE ground!

For me it is a no-no.

Well, of course, to each his/her own. However, you can%26#39;t see everything in Paris if you spend 365 days trying. It is more about what sounds interesting--and perhaps different--than it is about seeing things above ground before those below ground. I just think both the sewer and especially the catacombs are interesting and unusual tours with the added benefit that if it is hot outside, it is cool and refreshing down there. I%26#39;d do them both again easily. They were time well spend to both me and my son.
