We rented from europecar on ave. Foch near Arc de triomphe. It is open on the weekends. It was fairly easy to get out of Paris from there. They gave us decent directions, and we didn%26#39;t get lost! The good news is that traffic was light in Paris, but heavy on the motorway out to the Loire. Just take the metro to etoile and go toward ave. Foch. We then went back to the apartment (which was in the 7th) picked up the rest of the family and got out of town. no big deal, even in a 9 passenger van.

Alternatively, avoid the hassle of driving out from Paris; and take the TGV train down to St Pierre des Corps and hire your car there. St Pierre des Corps is the mainline station on the outskirts of Tours, and is very cenral for exploring the Loire Valley.

well you can rent a car at Paris Bastille or Paris Montparnasse Railwaystation ... go to www.europcar.fr and check in

you can also take the TGV at Paris Montparnasse to Tours and rent a car here then return to Paris by train ...

%26quot;where should I go in the loire valley?%26quot;

There is so much to see in the Loire Valley that you really need to buy yourself a guide book and read it, and then draw up your shortlist.

For many people the famous Chateaux are one of the main attractions. Chataeux like Chambord, Chenonceaux, Amboise, Ussé, Azay le Rideau, Chinon, Villandry; to mention just a few .

There are many towns with unspoilt old quarters, and small villages which seem unchanged for many years.

The countryside is beautiful, and there are many small and large rivers crossing through the Loire Valley to merge with the Loire.

And then of course there are the vineyards!

thanks sunflower we would like to see a chateau or two and of course as many vineyard as possible what town would be good to stay overnight. by the way how far is it from paris..

|||

In my opinion Amboise is a good base, and if you take the TGV St Pierre des Corps is 55 minutes from Paris Montparnasse.

|||

Do take the TGV and pick up the car at St Pierre des Corps. In Amboise, visit the chateau but also walk up the street to Clos Luce.

|||

thank you for the advice, anybody been to le choiseul in amboise it%26#39;s available anytoughts

As you will see from my review of it, I thought it was okay but not good value as it was quite expensive. I think you can do better in Amboise.
