Day trip: Paris, Giverny, Mont St Michel?

Is this a reasonable day trip by train?

Paris - Giverny - Mont St Michel (visiting Bayeax) - Paris

Without looking at actual train schedules I have to say this seems too much (You can look at www.sncf.fr for schedules). The train from Paris doesn%26#39;t go to Giverny. It goes to Vernon which is a half hour walk or a taxi ride away. Mont St. Michele is a ways away - it%26#39;s actually on the border of Brittany. And I think it%26#39;s unlikely you could spend any time in Bayeaux on the way.

Giverny by itself is a reasonable day trip. If you want to see Mt. St. Michele, I%26#39;d urge you to try to locate somewhere nearby for at least a night. Remember that the D-Day beaches are close.

I hope this is helpful. Maybe others have suggestions. I know there are some bus tours from Paris.

Mont St Michel and Bayeaux are rather a long way from Paris. Mont St Michel about 200 miles in a straight line.

Your best bet would be to get a train from St. Lazare station to Caen and pick up a hire car. Bayeaux isn%26#39;t far away (north west) and Mont St Michel is further in another direction (south west). It is possible to do the lot in a day but to comfortably see St Michel you would need to start early and it would be a fairly long day.

Giverny as a day trip would be great. You take the train to Vernon and then get on the bus which will take you to Giverny. You can amble around Monets house and garden and also visit the rest of the town which is very charming. There is a musuem with art from American painters who worked in France.

Do not try to combine this with Mt St Michel into a one day excursion. you%26#39;ll never make it, especially taking a train.

Thank you for the link to the train schedules. Impossible by train. With an overnight stay in Caen - this trip is possible by car. I think I will keep my schedule much simpler %26amp; enjoy the day in Giverny. Thanks for the tips.

Make sure you check the train schedule to vernon. There%26#39;s an early train (before 9 I think) and one at 11:30 or so. Once you get to vernon, in addition to taxis, there are buses meeting the trains from the Giverny/monet foundation. For 4 euros round trip, they will bus you to the gardens. Easiest way in my book.

I would strongly disagree with Kaneda and say that there is no way it is possible to do all of this in a day. Yes, you could physically get from Paris to Giverny to Bayeux to MSM and back to Paris in a day but you wouldn%26#39;t be stopping at any of these places! Paris to MSM alone is a 4 hour drive, so round trip 8 hrs. Going via these other places is going to make it about 10 hours just driving. I%26#39;ve never been to Giverny but have been told it needs at least half a day, as does Bayeux, MSM needs at least 2 hours - do the maths yourself!!! None of them are worth scrimping on time. I wouldn%26#39;t even attempt to do them justice with an overnight stop. Take two nights in Normandy, one near Giverny, the other in or near Bayeux.
