Can someone tell me what the Carte Orange is?

There is so much talk about it on these forums, and I get that they have something to do with transportation, but can someone explain exactly what the deal is? What is the tourist loophole? I don%26#39;t want to miss out!

its basically the equivalent of a weekly unlimited metro card, but only good Monday-Sunday.

Also valid on buses.

It is actually an orange card that you ask for at a metro ticket office. You can buy a monthly carte orange in whatever sections you need. You can also ask for the weekly pass or carte hebdomadaire which as have been mentioned by Evening and La Photographe - good for Monday to Sunday. You will need two passport size photos (for the first time) one to give to the ticket seller and another one that you paste onto your carte orange. You are now ready to take the metro and the buses (unlimited ride for the week). Oh yes, there is a space in the carte orange for the monthly or weekly pass. If you get checked, the inspector might ask you to write the carte orange number in your pass although no one has checked me for a few years.

This reminded me to get a new one - the one I am using is going on 10 years now.........

You only need one picture, as far as I know - you stick it on the Carte Orange card yourself (no glue needed).

And you absolutely need to copy the carte orange number onto the coupon(s) you buy - if you forget (or use a pencil), you can get a hefty fine (and pay for a new coupon too). The %26quot;incident%26quot; framboise_et_rose describes, means he was very lucky - ticket inspectors generally don%26#39;t take ignorance as an excuse.

The Carte orange is strictly personal - so only one person can travel on it. By copying the photo ID card number on the coupon, they are linked.
