Looking for Cheap Hotel & transportation info in Paris

It is our first time in Paris %26amp; does anyone have recommendations for cheap hotel, close to the metro %26amp; downtown by the Eiffel Tower. I am willing to spend up to $100 Canadian. As well, do I buy my metro pass online or in Paris. How do I get from the airport to the hotel, is there some kind of train b/c I heard taxi is expensive. Please help!! : )

To get from the airport to downtown, assuming you%26#39;re coming in to Charles de Gaulle, there%26#39;s an RER train (a suburban light rail transit) that costs about 9 euros, and when you reach central Paris you can transfer from Chatelet or Gare du Nord stop to the Metro. You can buy a metro pass when you get there. As for the type, the best deal depends on how much you%26#39;ll use it, where you%26#39;re going (central Paris or suburbs), and, weirdly enough, what day of the week you arrive.

Search for Paris metro or Carte Orange in this forum for more details.

I was there for a week, starting on a Thursday, %26amp; the best deal I found was a pack of 10 individual tickets, (un carnet) for under 12 euros. Public transportation is actually a good deal in Paris -- but hotels and restaurants are another story, considering the current value of the euro. I paid $140Cdn a night for AC, private bath, close to metro, safe neighbourhood -- which were my hotel requirements. As a plus, I could walk back to the hotel after watch the tower twinkle! Enjoy Paris.

So you%26#39;re looking at about 70 Euros a night. There are less expensive neighborhoods than those near the Eiffel Tower. Plus, that area is some distance from Paris%26#39; other major sights. So, if you have some flexibility, I%26#39;d suggest looking in the 10th or 11th Arrondisements which aren%26#39;t far from the Gare du Nord where you%26#39;ll come by RER train from Charles De Gaulle. The Rue de Malte has a dozen or so budget hotels in your range - depending on when you%26#39;ll be arriving.

if you were staying 5 nights or more, then for 75 per night you could have a small apartment....www.centreparis.com.....

I have stayed in the (tiny but most adequate) rue d%26#39;aboukir apartment and will return there in October....there%26#39;s no view of the Eiffel Tower (I think you may struggle to get that for about 70 euros per night) , but the neighbourhood is bustling, full of character, has a %26#39;market street%26#39; around the corner - which is great for prowling around, I love the location as there%26#39;s heaps of cheap but fascinating clothing stores, etc nearby.

Train from CDG to Gare du Nord is about 8.5 euros, then 1.30 euros tix to Strasbourg.....walk around the corner and voila!! HOME!!

Buy your metro pass in Paris. On-line you%26#39;ll pay extra..How long are you in Paris for??

stur3128, I just looked at the website you mention, centreparis.com. Their prices are lower than any I%26#39;ve seen for rental apts in Paris. Have you used them before? Was your experience good?

|||

Take a look at Hotel du Champs du Mars. It is close to the Eiffel Tower, Rue Cler, and the Seine.... and the price is very reasonable. We have friends who have stayed there and they loved the hotel...yes, it has small rooms (hey, it%26#39;s Paris!) but it is very clean. It gets great reviews here at TA.

Hi happy - yep, sure have used their apartments before. I stayed in the rue d%26#39;aboukir no 2 for 8 nights last October - absolutely loved it. There%26#39;s a laundry with washers and dryers, unlimited access to linens (you do have to wash them) for €10 for the week...and the owner, David, was SO helpful and kind - and answered about 120 questions (oh, ok 20 then) that I asked before I got there.

When I stupidly left my singapore dollars in the apartment (hidden so well I forgot them until I was in Brugge) he very kindly went there - and asked the new tenants if he could get a %26#39;package%26#39; that I left behind. He sent me the money by paypal - lost a bit in the translation, but, hey, I was soo lucky to get any!

I%26#39;m going back to the same apartment block this October.

The apartment has a good bed, is well heated, clean, a fair size (studio) with fold out couch and table, chairs, adequate kitchen, rah rah....and it%26#39;s great value.

Convinced you yet?? :)

Well I%26#39;m just amazed at the low prices. I%26#39;ve rented a lot of apts and houses in Europe before and this is the first I%26#39;ve heard of them. I don%26#39;t remember them being mentioned on TA before and I%26#39;ve been here for several years. Maybe I just wasn%26#39;t paying attention! :)

You wrote a really nice referral. I hope people who are looking for a less expensive alternative to hotels (and a more fun experience, IMHO) take notice. Thank you!

The apartments are basic, but have everything you need including ironing board, iron, hairdryer etc...and are well located.

They have another website - Stayparis....also have apartments in Dublin, Amsterdam, etc ..same people.

I like the fact that they have a calendar and you can book on-line instantly.

I have observed that many people choose to spend a lot of money on accommodation - having seen many questions around finding accom at $300 - 500 per night - definitely out of my league!

I prefer to stay in comfortable and adequate accommodation and spend the rest of my money on experience or shopping!! It%26#39;s all about choice, isn%26#39;t it?

What is the website for the rue d%26#39;aboukir apts.? Thanks!

there%26#39;s

www.stayparis.com/apartment-detail.php…

or

centreparis.com/location-paris/…fiche-15.html

interestingly, the price is cheaper still, through centreparis....
