Local help - Rue Reaumur/Rue St. Denis

I%26#39;m looking at renting an apartment which is on Rue St. Denis, just where it crosses Rue Reaumur.

I remember from a couple of years back that Rue St. Denis has quite a few %26quot;interesting%26quot; shops along it, but can%26#39;t recall the overall ambience of this area.

I will be staying in the apartment with my parents. Whilst my mother is quite broad-minded, my father isn%26#39;t quite so unembarassed by walking past adult shops.

Is anyone able to fill me in whether this would be a suitable area to stay?

Thank you.

You%26#39;re right, the rue Saint-Denis is well known for its prostitutes and s*x-shops. But the street is fairly long (1.4 km) and only part of it is %26quot;interesting%26quot;, as you put it...

You can have a look at pictures of the entire street, by using the French yellow pages: www.pagesjaunes.fr

If you enter, for example, %26quot;217, rue Saint-Denis%26quot;, you will see a link %26quot;photo%26quot;. After you%26#39;ve clicked that, you can %26quot;scroll%26quot; more or less through the entire street.

Personally, the only thing I would worry about is the noise. It%26#39;s a narrow street with a lot of traffic, also late in the evening (and at night, probably). If the apartment faces the street, that could be a problem if it is not soundproofed.

Hi Tigger

Many years ago (and I believe things have improved since then) I stayed in a flat 1/2 a block down rue St Sauveur off rue St Denis for a month. The worst of the peep shows were way down to the south end of rue St Denis and if you are close to rue Reamur you are unlikely to be bothered by much other than the odd tame street walker and the occasional gypsy with sleeping (drugged??) toddler in arms seeking alms. It was very quiet in that area at all times when we were there - bonus is that if you walk along rue St Sauveur in two short blocks you are at rue Montorgueuil - it is a fine area.
