where to go - off season

We are planning to fly to France mid February and spend a few nights in Paris and a few nights somewhere else .... but where?

First, where is Mont St. Michael?

Is there a small, charming beautiful city anyone would suggest? We want to be able to combine train and maybe a car rental. We are two 40ish adults and one 8 year old boy. Our goal is to go have a little adventure during Winter Break (more adventurous than visiting Grandma in Boca!)

Mont St Michel is on the border of Brittany %26amp; Normandy, on the coast. If you look at a map of France, with north pointing straight up, it%26#39;s just before 9 o%26#39;clock, due west from Paris. Rennes is a very sizable city nearby.

Winter charm is often cold, wet and cloudy. Perfect time for Paris or any other place normally crowded with tourists. The crowds won%26#39;t be around. Beware of Valentine%26#39;s Day though for Paris.

Thanks. Valentine%26#39;s Day is on a Thurs, we%26#39;d arrive the next day - do you think it will be difficult to book a room in Paris that weekend? I suppose we could head straight out to Normandy for a few days first and then to Paris second.

I%26#39;ve never had trouble booking Paris hotel rooms around Valentine%26#39;s Day. You should not either. The Seine will look like a traffic jam of dinner cruises that night. Restaurants will have all sorts of specials out of the ordinary.
