Taxis in Paris

My wife and son are spending 3 nights in Paris later this week en route to Provence.

My wife has recently had her 3rd operation on her knee in the last 12 months and is still struggling to be mobile. She can get around with just a stick but can%26#39;t get very far - and even then only slowly.

We are therefore going be relying on taxis rather than the Metro to get us around. Can someone help with the practicalities of this please. Is there for example a reliable firm that we can just ring up from, say, our favourite brasserie in the Place des Vosges, or the Louvre, and take us back to the hotel on the Left Bank? If such a firm does exist what is the phone number please?

I appreciate that it may not be quite as simple as this but there%26#39;s no way she%26#39;ll make it on the Metro and I want to minimise even walking around looking for the nearest taxi rank.

Finally, for anyone in a similarr position both the Louvre and Musee D%26#39;Orsay websites have sections on disabled access including free loan of wheelchairs.

Thanks

http://www.taxi-paris.net/page40.html#brn1 has a list of all taxi ranks in Paris. It might be worth marking these up on a street map before you go.

If you%26#39;re at a restaurant they will probably be able to call a taxi for you as most are very helpful, though you will have to pay the taxi fare from where the car is when it gets the call, not from when it picks you up.

We%26#39;ve never had a problem flagging a taxi down, though if you%26#39;re really stuck perhaps a hotel doorman would be willing to help you. I%26#39;ve always found the Parisians to be absolutely charming and helpful, especially to those obviously in need of extra help. (Except for when the metro is crowded when it%26#39;s everyone for themselves!)

Thanks for this. Very helpful - especially the list of taxi ranks.

Hi -

Looks like you%26#39;ve already gotten some good advice, but this may also be of additional help. My %26quot;Streetwise Paris%26quot; map has taxi stands plotted on the map, so you can look at where you are (or where you are going) and see where the nearest one is on the map. Whether these are ALL of the locations, I don%26#39;t know, but it is helpful to see them on the map.

If you don%26#39;t already own one, I bought mine from Amazon.com.....they have new and used and are reasonably priced. Additionally, the %26quot;streetwise%26quot; maps are great resources, sturdy and the portable size is just right.

Cheers!
