Paris for two days!!!! (all by myself)

I%26#39;m landing in Paris on the 4th of November and fly home on the 7th. (40th birthday present)

Can anyone give me any ideas for what to see, where to stay etc.? My budget for accommodation is about $200 (AUS) a night. Would love to see the real Paris but only have such a short time!!!!

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I have NO idea.

Thanks,

Debra

I seriously recommend starting with a guidebook or two, to see what would interest you (which isn%26#39;t necessarily at all what would interest me or others who might respond), and then make a plan of what%26#39;s in close proximity to other sites.

You can do a search on this site for hotels in your price range. As it%26#39;s your first trip (I think, based on your comments), I would suggest trying to get one in a central area that will let you walk to a lot of places from your hotel, without having to take the Metro first (i.e., the areas along the Seine on either bank).

Hi

I have just had 2 days in Paris last weekend and it was very hot! Best tip is to buy a 2 day Open Top Bus ticket. There are 4 routes and the ticket lets you hop on and off over the 2 days. Use it to get from A to B or just sit and watch the sights go by. 28 Euros for 2 days - amazing value. Failing that use the Metro - it is easier than I expected. The queues at the Eiffle tower were unbelievable so we climbed up the Arc de Triomphe instead which gave lovely views. We also splashed out on a boat trip but didnt take the ones that offer meals as they cost a lot. An hour and a half was 9 euros with Bateaux Mouches.

I hope you enjoy your trip.

On other thing you can do - there are many threads on this forum about short trips to Paris. You can do a search and come up with a lot of ideas that others have posted for how to organize and enjoy a short trip. Have fun!

I would recommend staying in the Latin Quarter or the St. Germain des Pres area. Watch out for hotels near the Gare du Nord as I know that is not a good area. The last time I was in paris I stayed at the Hotel Minerve in the Latin Quarter. It was a nice cute hotel on a safe and quiet street and was conveniently located to the Metro and most sites.

I would definitely see Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Pont Alexander III, Musee d%26#39;Orsay, and the gardens right outside of the Louvre (can%26#39;t think of the name right now). The only place I was disappointed with was the Champs Elysees. It%26#39;s very commercial and not very charming. If you%26#39;re afraid of heights at all I wouldn%26#39;t recommend going to the very top of the Eiffel tower; it is very windy up there and the tower sways a lot.

I think doing the open top deck bus around Paris is a MUST DO if you only have a short time. You can get off at numerous attractions and then hop back on again....I go to Paris every year, and I still enjoy riding on the bus......there is so much to see, it gives you time to just explore different sites and areas.
