Best way to access and experience Loire by train

My daughters and I are traveling to Loire by train. We only have two nights. Can someone suggest a location and lodging in Loire that is easily accessible by train and that we can still experience chateaux, wine, and small village experience? Most places seem to require a car to access. Suggestions on how to navigate without a car would be greatly appreciated.

Stay in the city of Tours and join the mini-bus day tours. Do a search on here. There are only a couple of chateaux which can be easily accessed by train.

I think the recommendation of staying in tours and joining a bus tour is probably your best bet. I%26#39;ve been to the Loire valley twice; the first time we took the train to Tours and found no cars available for rental. So we actually took a taxi from the train station out to Chenonceau chateau and back. I think it was about $80.00 USD at the time and this was about 4 or 5 years ago. It worked out better than we thought it would. The second time we stayed in a chateau B %26amp; B just outside of Amboise and drove ourselves around with a rental car from Tours. Having a car is much more convenient and driving is not that hard at all. Especially out in the countryside like the Loire Valley. The hardest part was finding our way out of Tours and onto the main highway; after that it was a piece of cake. I would really recommend renting the car but if you are set against it, joining a tour group from Tours is your best bet. Just a heads up that the actual city of Tours is not that charming. Very average. The town of Amboise is very historic and charming tho. Best chateaus are Chenonceau and Chambord by far.

I don%26#39;t know how much tours to the chateaux are, but if you are trying to save money by not renting a car, you may spend it all on tours. IMO the best of the Loire is not accessible without a car. Visiting the caves and villages. We stayed outside Vouvray to avoid the traffic of Tours and loved it. If driving in the Loire seems scary, its not. I drove a 9 passenger van with no problems. If you can fit renting a car into your budget/plans, I would say take the TVG to Tours (not the right name, but that escapes me at the moment) then rent a car from there. reserve in advance for the best prices.
