Requesting opinions of Homeaway.com apartment rental

Our family of 5 is considering renting an apartment with Homeaway.com from 12/26/07 - 1/1/08. The rental #166126 is listed as a townhouse in the 9th arron. within walking distance of the Montmarte foothills and nearby Place Clichy. Our 3 children are 10, 17 and 19 years old, and we are wondering if the location is in an area that has a family-friendly atmosphere. We have read that this area is near what is considered a redlight district and are not sure if it should stop us from renting here. If anyone has had experiences with this company we would love to hear from you.

it%26#39;s really not a family friendly atmosphere, but when in Paris, you don%26#39;t spend too much time in the neighboroughs, so many things to do and visit. The apartment looks like comfortable, go ahead ....

I don%26#39;t know what your budget is but you may want to look at Paris Pied a Terre. My family of 5 rented the Passy apartment in the 16th not far from the Eiffel Tower and the Passy metro. The apartment was 1400 euros for the week and was clean, comfortable and in a good neighborhood with shops etc. We had to send a $1400 USD deposit (a personal check which they don%26#39;t cash). I was very nervous about this but other apartments we looked at required a 1000 euro deposit so we trusted our guts and everything went well. They are reputable and always answer the phone and e-mail if you call. If this is in your budget you may want to check them out. I%26#39;ll answer any other questions you may have.

Just a heads up that Homeaway.com which is part of cyberrentals.com is only a website that lists properties that are individually owned. VRBO.com is also a similar site. If there are enough complaints to the website I believe they can be taken off.

So far I have rented thru them as well as others who have posted here with no problems.

Our apartment was listed on VRBO as well.

Thank you for your response. We looked up the Passy Apartment and it looks lovely, but found that it only has 2 bedrooms. We would rather have 3 bedrooms so that noone would have to sleep on a sofa-bed in the living room.

Our 16 year old son slept on the sofa so he could watch TV all night. He never sleeps. He also went outside on the little balconies to listen to Paris and look at the top of the Eiffel Tower. It worked for us and it is a nice area so if all else fails check it out.

You could check out the Classic Paris apartment at PerfectlyParis.com. It%26#39;s in a family-friendly neighborhood - rue

Caulaincourt. It has 3 bedrooms. I stayed in the smaller, Prestigious Junot nearby and found the area easy to get around and full of fine bakeries, epicieries, etc. Gail, who manages perfectlyparis is great to work with and can easily steer you to the right apartment for your needs. (Have stayed in 3 of her listings and loved them all.)
