Versailles in December

Do they decorate the palace with anything special in December?

We will be in Paris around the 10th/11th, and might include

Versailles in our itinerary.

Keep in mind, December is a good time to go because you will have the place much more to yourself than you would in the warmer months, but a not so good time because the gardens (most of your visit is spent in the gardens) will not be in bloom...

But no, no Christmas decor and the like.

We will be there in December as well. Although the flowers will not be in bloom, are the gardens still worth going to see?

One of the interesting side-effects of going in winter is that, as you walk through the gardens, you will see fountains and grottos that you may have overlooked in the summer because the leaves blocked your view. Personally, I think the gardens have a hauntingly spectacular quality about them in the dead of winter and are just as much worth visiting as when they are in full bloom in the summer. It%26#39;s a particularly great time to shoot black and white film, which captures a certain element of the starkness of winter that color just doesn%26#39;t get. Bottom line...definitely worth it.

One piece of advice would be to get yourself a pair of those rubber covers for your shoes, as it can be very wet out there in the winter. I%26#39;ve spent a few times out there with wet, really cold feet, and it%26#39;s not a lot of fun. But the little stand at the Apollo Basin makes great hot chocolate.

Thankyou for the advice. We will make a full day of it now. I thought that a major drawback of visiting Paris in the winter would be missing the beauty of the gardens in bloom. However, it seems that it will provide another aspect that should be enjoyed.
